Presentation Manager
Workplace Shell
TCP/IP
2 Mb free disk space
Note: There is a problem installing FTP Browser on early releases of OS/2
Warp (RED BOX) that do not have a fixpak applied. This version of OS/2
includes version 2.11 of SOM dated October 94. Please make sure that the
SOM*.DLL files in your \OS2\DLL directory are dated 1995 or later BEFORE
attempting to install FTP Browser.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Installing for the first time ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The following steps are performed:
Copy the application files to your hard drive
Modify the system files
Create a Workplace Shell class
Create a template in the templates folder
Create a folder for FTP Browser objects
The fields in the installation window will initially contain suggested default
values. Any of these values can be changed. When all of these values are
correct and you would like to start the installation procedure, select
install. After installation, check the installation status window for any
errors. If there were errors during the install, refer to troubleshooting
before attempting to install again.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Installing over a previous installation ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The following steps are performed:
Copy the application files to your hard drive
Update the system files
Recreate the Workplace Shell class
Recreate the template in the templates folder
Recreate the folder for FTP Browser objects
Note: If you have checked the update settings only button, then only the
system files will be updated. The other steps will not be performed.
When installing FTP Browser on top of a previous installation, the fields in
the installation window will reflect the values of the current installation.
The program defaults can be changed. When all of these values are correct and

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Modifications to system files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The installation program adds the following application entries to your os2.ini
file:
Install directory
Default username
E-mail address
Default download directory
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Troubleshooting ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Installation problems
If an installation failed, you must uninstall before attempting to
install again. This ensures that the FTP Browser class and objects are
properly removed, which could otherwise cause any subsequent installation
attempts to fail.
Uninstallation problems
All FTP Browser objects should be removed from your desktop before
uninstalling, except for the FTP Site folder and the template that was
created in the templates folder during installation.
In certain cases there are some files that can not be removed because the
Workplace Shell has not released them. In order to remove these files
make sure that all FTP Browser objects have been removed, then shutdown
and reboot OS/2 from another drive. The files to remove are ftpbwps.dll
and ftpbrows.hlp.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Installation settings ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This chapter describes the fields contained in the installation window. These
fields customize the installation procedure and program settings.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.1. Install directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Specifies where the program and data files are to be stored. This directory
will be created if it does not currently exist. It must include a drive letter
and a fully qualified path name without the trailing slash.
Example c:\tcpip\ftpbrows
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.2. Update settings only ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this button if you would like to have the install program only update
FTP Browser with new settings. This will prevent any files from being copied
over the current installation. This button is disabled if FTP Browser is not
installed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.3. Enable proxy login ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this button if your local network is protected by a proxy server
(firewall). FTP Browser will then automatically login to your proxy server
before connecting to a FTP host on the internet. Proxy login can be disabled
afterwards for individual FTP Browser objects in their properties notebooks,
but it must be enabled during installation if you intend to use it.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.4. Username ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The value of this field will be the name that a remote host you connect to
recognizes as your user name. This user name will be inherited by all FTP
Browser objects by default. The user name for any individual object can be
changed in its properties notebook. It is recommended that the user name be
anonymous if you frequently login to public sites anonymously.
The user name is limited to a length of 49 characters.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.5. E-mail address ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The value of this field should be the password for the default user name. If
your default user name is anonymous, then this field should contain your e-mail
address. This password will inherited by all FTP Browser objects by default.
The password can be changed for any individual object in its properties
notebook.
The password is limited to a length of 49 characters.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.6. Download directory ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Specifies where files retrieved from a host are to be stored locally. It must
include a drive letter and a fully qualified path name without the trailing
slash.
Example c:\tcpip\download
Note: This directory will be created if it does not currently exist.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.7. Server address ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This specifies the address of your local network's proxy server. This field is
limited to a length of 49 characters.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8.8. Username ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The value of this field will be the name that your proxy server recognizes as
your user name. This field is limited to a length of 49 char
